Get Your Personal Finance House In Order By Getting Your House's Electric Bills In Order

If you don’t have money to put in your savings or retirement account maybe getting a handle on your home utility bills will provide the answer. The easiest way to grow your savings is by using money that you won’t miss. Cutting home utility bills will create that found money for you.

With today’s energy crisis many families have given up on paying themselves first so that they can pay their monthly bills. Using less energy is good for your future in a lot of ways plus as we will discuss here it will grow your financial wealth.

Cutting electric cost in summer months will create a higher impact than anything else you may do. Set your thermostat at 74 degrees and use fans to circulate the air in the house. Fans will move cool air into areas where hot air gets trapped and given the house and even temperature throughout.

Unplugging TV’s when not in use will save large amounts of electricity. Use a power strip and power down all media devices when not in use. With modern TV’s they still maintain power flow when in the off position. If you must leave your DVR on then do not put it on the power strip. Computers and laptops fall into this same category.

Turn off all unused lights and use lower wattage bulbs in areas where the lighting is not used for reading. Use energy efficient bulbs as old bulbs burn out. Be cautious with the disposal of the newer bulbs as they contain small amounts of mercury.

An old fashion clothes line drying your laundry outside has many benefits. It requires no electricity. Your home is not heated up by the dryer. No lint gets pasted in to the air flow of your home clogging up heating and cooling vents and returns. And your air conditioner does not have to work overtime to cool down what the dryer heated up. When you bring the laundry in give it a few minutes in the shade to cool it down so you are not bringing in heat from the outside.

Insulate and Seal. These two items will create immediate impact on both your summer and winter utility bills not just the winter. Cut down the transfer of heat from outside to in and inside to out.

Ceiling fans and exhaust fans will help evenly heat and cool your home. Exhaust fans will draw out humid hot air pulling in cooler fresher air. Ceiling fans will circulate the air evenly throughout a roof giving a comforting breeze.
